Not looking for a new role.

I build EHRPlus, the EMR running in 22 Nepali hospitals. Before that I worked on weather data for the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, project monitoring for Kathmandu Metropolitan City, and disaster data for the national disaster authority.

EHRPlus

Summary

Registration to billing, one record.

Patients are registered, seen, sent to the lab and radiology, and billed in one system, in 22 hospitals, at every hour of the day.

My part covers the forms clinicians fill in, the data model under them, the server each hospital runs on site, rollout and training, and the support line hospitals message when something breaks.

  • EMR, lab, radiology and billing
  • A server in every hospital
  • Rollout, training and support

National weather visualization

Summary

Readings from 1981 on, checked before use.

I led the team that built it. Station data syncs into one national real-time database, PostGIS interpolates it into grids across the country, and automated quality control flags an invalid reading before anyone builds on it.

  • PostgreSQL and PostGIS
  • Automated quality control
  • Fault-tolerant sync

IT project monitoring

Summary

Every vendor deadline in one place.

The city’s IT department oversees projects that outside vendors deliver. Vendors post their own progress logs and documents, administrators see every project against its deadline, and vendors get an SMS reminder before a date passes.

  • Vendor and admin roles
  • SMS deadline reminders
  • Per-vendor reports

Three rules I hold myself to

  1. The person on shift decides.

I check every screen against the person who will use it mid-shift, with a patient waiting. If it slows them down, it is wrong.

  2. Build what can be supported.

A hospital runs this for years with a small IT team. I choose designs and tools that the people after me can keep running.

  3. Follow it into the field.

I stay with a system through deployment, training and the first support calls. Most of what needs fixing shows up there.
